This is Damon’s letter explaining his motivation for continuing his education at The Ohio State University!

We wish him much success!

I have always felt the importance of taking care of my body by running, working out, and
eating healthy. This passion has inspired me to pursue a career in the healthcare field. I have
been preparing by taking as many science classes as I can, including AP biology, AP physics,
anatomy, honors chemistry and others. I plan on attending college and majoring in health science
to later go into a physical therapy program in order to achieve my goal of becoming a physical
therapist. The financial help this scholarship would provide my family would be amazing as my
sister is already in college pursuing a career in the healthcare field and my brother will be
attending college in a year with post graduate education plans as well.
Education has always been a priority in my family. When the United States entered World
War II, all Japanese citizens on the west coast were relocated into internment camps bringing
only what they could carry. My grandfather finished high school in the camps and soon after, he
entered the U.S. Army. Although he was taken from his home, he fought for the United States in
the war. Afterwards he continued his education to create a healthy life for his family. This shows
me that through adversity, it is possible to accomplish anything through education and
perseverance. Later in life, I would visit him in the hospital and rehabilitation facilities which
demonstrated the care and diligence that healthcare workers give to their patients. This sparked
my interest in pursuing a career in the health field as a physical therapist where I will be able to
treat wonderful people like my grandfather.
